During Biber's lifetime, his music was known and imitated throughout Europe. In the late 18th century he was named the best violin composer of the 17th century by music historian Charles Burney.
とあり，当時はかなりの評判の作曲者兼バイオリニストだったらしい。 Biberは1644-1704年なので，1685年生まれのBachよりも41才上で活動時期は重なるが，このパッサカリアはBachが生まれるより前の1676年の作品。 Bachにもかなりの影響を与えたのではと想像する。
